CULS University Challenge – Results of the Final
In this year’s University Challenge 8 College teams were whittled down to 2 finalists, former champions Fitzwilliam/Corpus against Robinson/Pembroke. This year’s challenge had thrown up some very competitive matches and the final was no different. Fitzwilliam/Corpus prevailed in the first 20 minutes to establish a healthy 45 point lead with 10 minutes to go. However Robinson/Pembroke had saved all their mental reserves for the last 10 minutes and won most of the “starters for 10” giving them the opportunity to prevail over the former champions with a final score of 255 points to 220 points. Our congratulations to the Champions from Robinson/Pembroke captained by David Mortimer and whose team were Keith Bailey, James Taylor and Andrew Fox (Pembroke) and commiserations to the losing finalists from Fitzwilliam/Corpus captained by our president Ian Marcus and whose team were Emma Fletcher, Paul Munro-Faure and Richard Morton (Corpus). A great time was had by all including the quizmaster and scorekeeper. Our thanks to our society secretary Ali in helping with the organisation and for keeping the scores and also to all 32 brave CULS members who participated in the Challenge.
