GEO POLITICAL TRENDS IN REAL ESTATE
The last Thursday of February saw a CULS event which had Martin Wolf, the chief economics commentator of the Financial Times, and Savvas Savouri, partner and chief economist at Toscafund, recreating the drama of Fury v Wilder.
Packed into an electrified room, the protagonists exchanged blows on the current geopolitical situation, the future of the UK’s trade relationship with the EU and the US, and a fascinating insight into how the US views Germany. The views expressed were almost diametrically opposed, with strong arguments being expounded for each. It was a fascinating debate and all those present felt lucky to have been witness to two great minds sparring in this way. Common ground was eventually found on a couple of topics, one of which was the response of fiscal policy in the UK to the GFC – however not to such an extent that a rematch is not on the cards twelve months hence in order to see whose predictions were closer to the eventuality. CULS feels confident of filling the Staples Center in Los Angeles such was the response from the audience.
Thank you Martin and Savvas for a wonderful event.
