Death of Peter Poole CBE TD DL, Past President of The Society
Peter Poole CBE TD DL was the senior Past President of CULS. After graduating in 1952 he worked for several years in the Department of Estate Management which looked after the property interests and maintenance of most of the Cambridge Colleges. Several years after that he left for his father’s firm in Liverpool, Poole and Partners where he practised as a ‘General Practioner’ for many years.
Later, in 1956, he joined the RICS Junior Organisation (as it was called until recently renamed ‘Matrix’) and in 1961-62 he was elected Chairman. He was an active member of the Estate Management Society as CULS was called then, and he was President in 1963. Peter had a long career in the Royal Engineers Territorial Army where he was Lieut. Colonel and awarded the Territorial Decoration (TD) and also awarded a military CBE. He was a Deputy Lieutenant (DL) for Lancashire for many years, and was altogether a distinguished chartered surveyor, and a very good friend and member of the Society, until he fell ill in recent years with vascular dementia.
He is survived by his wife Diana. Details of a memorial service are not yet known, but will be posted when they are.
