CULS University Challenge QF 2
The second quarter-final of the 2021 University challenge took place on Monday evening February 8. The defending champions Fitzwilliam/Corpus were taken on by a team from Robinson/Trinity Hall and Saint Catherine’s. After 10 minutes the teams were exactly equal on points but the defending champions then showed their mettle and pulled away to win by an eventual score of 310 points to 175 points. This would appear to be a record both in terms of the highest winning score and the combined aggregate points amassed by both teams. Either the intellectual quality is increasing or the questions are getting easier. Two substitutes participated on the evening, Andrew Waters standing in for Emma Fletcher for Fitzwilliam College, and John Scott standing in for the team from Robinson College, which again was a first in that John was participating from the east coast of the USA showing just how far the University Challenge has reached. The third quarter-final between a combined team from Peterhouse and Pembroke versus Murray Edwards takes place on Monday 22nd of February at 6 PM. Spectators are welcome.
