40% of the world’s carbon emissions come from commercial real estate. In the UK, buildings account for around 25% of all UK greenhouse gas emissions. The property sector therefore has a critical role to play in tackling climate change and the UK will not become net zero by 2050 unless we accelerate the decarbonisation of our homes and buildings. The growing momentum behind net zero carbon has led to significant commitments being made at global, country, and city levels. Now is the time for these pledges to be turned into meaningful action.
To hear about both the global and UK’s policies and progress on climate change, Cambridge University Land Society ESG Forum, sponsored by Savills, invites you to hear from Nigel Topping, a member of the UK’s Climate Change Committee, and the UN’s Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP26, and the UNFCCC’s Global Ambassador on the ‘Race to Zero’ and the ‘Race to Resilience’.
Following a presentation from Nigel, Smith Mordak, Chief Executive, UK Green Building Council will chair a Q&A session where they will both share their perspectives on the role of enabling policy and innovation in addressing climate change in our built environment sector.
