The Sports and Leisure Forum are delighted to invite you to join the Conversation with Monty Don OBE on Thursday 28th January 2021 at 6pm.
Monty Don is the UK’s leading garden writer and broadcaster. He has been making television programmes for over thirty years on a range of topics, spanning travel, craft, outdoor living and principally gardening. He has been lead presenter of the BBC’s Gardeners’ World since 2003 and since 2011 the programme has come from his own garden, Longmeadow in Herefordshire. Monty has also made acclaimed prime time series such as Around the World in 80 Gardens, Monty Don’s Italian Gardens, Monty Don’s French Gardens, The Secret History of the British Garden, Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens, Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens, Monty Don’s American Gardens & three series of Big Dreams, Small Spaces.
Born in 1955, Monty grew up in Hampshire where he gardened with his family from a young age, and was educated at a variety of schools followed by Magdalene College, Cambridge. A prolific horticultural journalist, Monty Don was the Observer’s gardening editor from 1994 until 2006. Monty has written numerous books including his most recent Sunday Times Bestseller, My Garden World.
The conversation with Monty will be led jointly by Mike Gunton (Gonville & Caius, 1979) and Tanya Bird (Gonville & Caius, 1980). Mike, a BAFTA winner, is a wildlife film-maker and Factual & Creative Director at BBC Natural History Unit. He has been Executive Producer of numerous acclaimed wildlife documentary series over the past 30 years, many in collaboration with Sir David Attenborough including Dynasties, Planet Earth II, Africa and One Life. Tanya is formerly a Trustee of Kew Gardens and Head of Development & Marketing at the Natural History Museum. A Natural Sciences (Botany) graduate with an extraordinarily broad career, she is now a director of Cormorant Ventures, an independent strategic advisory firm.
