“Regeneralist”. A Talk by Chris Wise, Senior Director, Expedition Engineering and the Useful Simple Trust.

Chris Wise engineer and our sponsored visiting professor at the school of architecture is giving a talk on 1st October kindly hosted by Donald Insall Associates (DIA) at their London office, 12 Devonshire Street, London W1G 7AB.

Chris is Expedition’s Co-Founder and Senior Director as well as an award-winning designer. He is a prominent figure in the Engineering industry, known for challenging the status quo and delivering disruptive designs. He has a passion for environmentally friendly design and redefining our relationship with the planet.

From the on-time and on-budget London Olympic Velodrome and the aspirational Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, to the elegant and lean design of the Infinity Bridge in Stockton, Chris’ career has seen him lead projects and teams all over the world. His work is underlined by his eye for elegant designs, rooted in simplicity.

Chris is known for his ability to add value throughout the lifecycle of a project. He is particularly valued at the concept stage, where he can understand and challenge the brief, get to the heart of the problem, and reach a flawless outcome for clients. With excellent leadership skills, bold ideas, and warm nature it is clear to see why he is a highly sought after engineer.

Chris is driven to use his influence to help ensure a positive impact on the planet and reduce errors in the industry. He publishes articles and holds leading roles within industry initiatives Get It Right, MaGic, and MEICON. He is also an elected member, Smeatonian Society of Civil Engineers, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Honorary Fellow of RIBA.

He has spent time as a Professor of Design at Imperial, Yale, and UCL where he was able to share his knowledge with the next generation of engineers. He is an industry leader, recognised as one of the most inventive structural engineers of his generation, and is currently researching how to embed Regenerative Design across the Faculty of Design and Engineering undergraduate engineering education at the University of Bath, and sits on the 1851 Royal Commission as co-chair of the SouthKenZen zero emissions neighbourhood (an area including all the museums, Imperial and Albert Hall).
