David Crichton Henry FRICS FRGS is a Chartered Surveyor, based in Cambridge, and is also an experienced adventurer. He will be explaining what happened during Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic ‘Endurance’ expedition of 1914-17, using historic photographs from the period, as well as illustrating his own recent trip to the South Pole.
David’s 2015 expedition was in part commemoration of the events of a century ago, and in part a means of publicising a current project, being carried out in conjunction with the Scott Polar Research Institute, to digitise previously unpublished historic ‘Endurance’ documents, particularly the sea log of James Wordie, Shackleton’s Chief Scientist .
Hear tales of shipwreck and survival in the frozen wastes of the Antarctic , as well as learn something about an inspiring leader, Ernest Shackleton. Many of his leadership lessons can still be successfully applied to teamworking today. Presented in David’s inimitable style that blends serious research and effort with a dash of humour, you will also learn what happened when the piper met the penguin, and enjoy some remarkable photographs.
