Panel Discussion, Speakers:

  • Professor Douglas Crawford-Brown, Director of Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation (“4CMR”) Chair
  • Professor John Miles ARUP/Royal Academy of Engineering Professor in Transitional Energy Strategies at the University of Cambridge
  • Stephen Burgin, Country President, Alstom UK
  • Sam Pickering, Head of Energy & Sustainability, CBRE
  • Steve Hargreaves, Corporate Strategy Director, EDF Energy

Back in October 2008, C U Land Society Past President, Andrew Waters, arranged and chaired a very popular panel presentation and discussion entitled: “Property, Energy, and Climate Change-Sustainability Myths and Financial Reality.”

Five years down the line, it would appear that many of the issues considered and debated then, are still highly topical, and perhaps more urgently in need of being resolved. Lately the National Press has been full of articles warning of an impending energy shortage, highlighting the closure of coal fired power stations and the shortage of natural gas.

Do we really face a shortage of energy? How efficient is our current energy production? Is our energy usage efficient, or wasteful? Looking to the future, are we likely to use more energy, or less and what implications will our energy policies have for owners and occupiers of property?

Andrew has now brought together a panel of leading experts for a presentation and discussion which will be hosted by Simmons and Simmons at the lecture theatre in their City Office on Wednesday 26th June 2013. Members and guests will have ample opportunity to join in with what promises to be an interesting and lively debate, followed by drinks and refreshments.
