“Real Estate, Risk and the Crisis: A glimpse into the future”
Tuesday 28th February 2012
12.30pm for 1.00pm
Lunch and talk by Professor Colin Lizieri BA MA PhD FGS FRICS
Grosvenor Professor of Real Estate Finance
University of Cambridge
Painters’ Hall, Little Trinity Lane, London EC2V 2AD
What have we learned about real estate from the “Credit Crunch”? How well did property fare against other asset classes as the “long boom” of the early 2000s came to an end and transpired into the severe market correction that followed? Has the case for property evaporated or does it still have a role in portfolios? Have attitudes towards debt and gearing changed – and if not, why not? What is the significance of the growth of foreign ownership of UK real estate? How can real estate investors control risk in an increasingly uncertain market environment?
It is rare to get the opportunity to hear one of the country’s leading academics in the field of Real Estate Finance. The Society is jointly hosting this lunch with the Property and Finance Group (www.pandfg.co.uk), at which Professor Colin Lizieri of the Department of Land Economy will give his insights and the benefits of his research into the role of real estate as investment in times of economic difficulty.
Professor Colin Lizieri leads the teaching of the highly successful Real Estate Finance Masters degree in the Department of Land Economy in the University of Cambridge, where he is a Fellow of Pembroke College. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
Colin has published extensively in the fields of real estate finance and office market dynamics. He is a member of the Investment Property Forum research committee, has acted as an expert advisor and consultant to the European Union, the UK and Norwegian governments, the Corporation of London, the City of Toronto and numerous private sector organisations.
