Spring Meeting - North Norfolk

Date:

25th to 27th April 2008

Time:

all weekend

Venue:

Holkham Hall & Blakeney, North Norfolk

Ian Mashiter, President of the Society and Giles Dobson, Chairman of the Rural Regeneration Forum and the Society Honorary Secretary would like to invite you to join us for the Spring Weekend meeting in North Norfolk.

We envisage meeting on Friday evening in Blakeney for an informal supper.  Those who plan to arrive earlier on Friday might enjoy shopping in the delightful market town of Holt, the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s new Visitor Centre at Cley or a range of other attractions in the area.

On Saturday 25 th April 2008 we will have a bespoke tour of the privately owned Holkham Hall and Estate.  Holkham is the centre of a thriving 25,000-acre agricultural estate; which provides resources both to maintain the house, and to ensure that the social fabric of rural life remains intact.  Thomas Coke, the first Earl of Leicester, conceived the Palladian Hall as his vision of an Italian villa on the windswept north Norfolk coast. The Coke family has lived at Holkham continuously since the 1750s and takes great pride in sharing the house and its treasures, the Deer Park and Holkham Beach, with visitors.

Dinner on Saturday will be at The White Horse, Blakeney.  Accommodation is also available at the White Horse and we have reserved rooms at a five-star guesthouse - Blakeney House, a short stroll away.

Sunday will start with a boat trip from Morston Quay to see the seals in their natural environment, basking at Blakeney Point, followed by an informal lunch in Morston for those who want to stay.  The itinerary for the weekend is attached.
