MEMBERS SPRING MEETING
West Sussex & Surrey
Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May 2010

Wine Tasting at Ridgeview, Horse Racing at Lingfield Park and visit to Wakehurst Place

Dear Member,

The Rural Forum of CULS is once again delighted to invite you to the Members Spring Meeting at Ridgeview Wine Estate, Lingfield Park Racecourse and Wakehurst Place in West Sussex.

The Meeting will be held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May 2010. Details of the weekend are as follows:

Saturday 8th May

Morning – General tour and wine tasting at Ridgeview Wine Estate from 10.30 to approximately 12.00 noon. This will include a tour of the vineyard which specialises in growing the Champagne grape varieties, an explanation of the vineyard and wine making processes, tour of the state-of-the-art winery, visit to the cellars followed by a tasting of current releases in the picturesque tasting room overlooking the South Downs.  Website www.ridgeview.co.uk.

Lunch – Can be taken at your choice of a range of restaurants, bars and food outlets at Lingfield Park.

Afternoon – Racing at Lingfield Park Racecourse. The first racing starts at 2.10pm. We will have a short informal talk about the racecourse by Philip Wragg, a Past President of the Society and nephew of the famous racehorse trainer, Geoff Wragg. This is Derby Trial Day, one of Lingfield’s Premier Race Days, so promises some good quality racing.

Dinner – The Wiremill, Felbridge, Surrey (close to Lingfield Park and East Grinstead).
We have arranged a set menu to include half a bottle of wine person.  A menu will be sent out nearer to the time. Website www.thewiremill.co.uk
Sunday 9th May

A visit to the gardens of Wakehurst Place at Ardingley, West Sussex, which is part of Kew. Of particular attraction to our members will be the Millennium Seed Bank Project which explores how Kew is helping to safeguard the world’s most endangered plants. We would aim to start around 10.30am and members are free to explore before we meet up at a Café for a drink or a light informal lunch before we depart.

I am sure you will find this an interesting and varied weekend and in these recessionary times we hope relatively affordable. We have a limited capacity for some of the tours and we expect places to fill up quickly, so please book early.

We hope that people will be able to join us for the whole weekend, in which case the cost per person will be £65.00 incl VAT, not including Saturday night accommodation. If you are not able to make the whole weekend, the costs for the constituent parts are as follows:

Ridgeview Winery                    £10
Lingfield Park Racecourse        £15
Dinner at The Wiremill              £30
Wakehurst Place                     £10

Please book directly with Kathy Wallen at the Society Office, details as above. Alternatively you can book via the website www.culandsoc.com if you are coming for the whole weekend, or if you prefer or can only attend parts of the weekend, please complete and return the attached booking form to Kathy with your payment.  Kathy can also supply you with a list of suggested local hotels.
